The Mix at Monterey is a multi-story 15,000 sf mixed-use urban infill project consisting of ground floor retail/restaurant space, second floor commercial space, and residential lofts with roof decks at the third and fourth floors. Mario Alacorn, PE
Civil Engineering Manager
Mario Alarcon graduated from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA with a BS in Civil/Management Engineering. He began his career in the Bay Area at Creegan + D’Angelo Engineers working on land development projects. Mario came to Praxis in 2017 to head up the civil department. Mario enjoys finding creative solutions to difficult constraints.
Jens Amlie
Structural Engineering Manager
Jens Amlie graduated from Arizona State university in 1998 with a BSE in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structures. He started his career with a small firm in Tempe Arizona called TOR Engineering where he worked on the custom residential, commercial, and work on the local Indian reservations. He worked with a variety of materials from your traditional wood, concrete, and steel… to adobe, hay bale, rammed earth and ICF. As his family grew, so did the need to live near family. He moved to Carpinteria, CA. This is where he established himself with Van Sande Structural Consultants where he became the lead engineer over many custom residential structures, commercial structures, many University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) jobs - including the $81 million Sierra Madre student housing and seismic evaluations of many of the UCSB buildings. Jens now brings his expertise to Praxis Engineering to head up the structural department and Santa Barbara office and apply his experience to the entire Central Coast.
Sebastian Buras
Structural
Sebastian graduated from Cal Poly SLO in 2019 with a BS in Civil Engineering. While attending Cal Poly, he was an intern at Praxis during 2019, then became a full-time structural engineer in 2020 after graduating. During his time at Praxis, Sebastian has had the opportunity to design homes both in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara, experiencing two different worlds of residential home design. He now calls Santa Barbara his home and hopes to one day become a pro-surfer, if he ever learns how to surf.
Carrie Fisher
Structural
Prior to engineering, Carrie was a paramedic in a busy 911 system. She was the owner/builder of her own residential home and ADU remodel in Ventura, which ignited her passion for structural engineering. She graduated from Cal Poly SLO in 2019 with a BS in Civil Engineering, with a focus in structural and bridge engineering. While at Cal Poly, she was an outreach coordinator for the Society of Women Engineers. She helped organize and run events like Girl Scouts Day and Middle School day, with activities for girls and children to engage with STEM fields. She was also the Chi Epsilon Social Pledge Chair. Carrie loves walking with her dogs, snorkeling and kayaking in the Channel Islands National Park, and gardening.
Ellie Matthews
Accounting
Ellie Matthews is a Midwestern native who moved to California in 2011. She received her bachelor’s degree in Business and has been working for Praxis since 2015. She enjoys being with her family, trips to the beach, and everything about house plants.
Timmy Puerling, PE
Civil & Structural
Tim Puerling, known as Timmy to his friends, graduated from Cal Poly SLO in 2015 with a BS in Civil Engineering. He began his career in North SLO County with North Coast Engineering (NCE) where he practiced general civil engineering. After about 2 years, he switched to structural engineering at Praxis in SLO. In 2020, he began practicing both civil and structural concurrently for residential projects and headed up the North SLO County office located in Atascadero. Timmy is married to his wife, Cari, since 2016. He enjoys surfing, backpacking, and all kinesiological topics. He walked on to the football team at Cal Poly and played safety for most of his years at Cal Poly.
Justin Saeidian
Structural
Justin graduated from Cal Poly SLO in 2019 with a BS in Civil Engineering, with a focus in structural engineering. While attending Cal Poly, he was an intern at Praxis during 2019, then was hired as a full-time structural engineer later in 2020. Justin earned his California Real Estate license with the goal of one day combining his engineering experience with his passion of real estate to become a residential real estate developer in Southern California. During his free time, Justin completed a full marathon, and enjoys playing various sports including soccer, basketball, golf, tennis, and volleyball.
Jorge Torres
Civil
Jorge graduated from Cal Poly SLO in 2011 with a BS in Civil Engineering. He began at Praxis in 2017 and has been working on various projects to obtain permits in the civil engineering department. Jorge is interested in hiking and physical fitness.
